Angus comes home

On May 10 we drove back to Helena to pick up Angus, now 50 days old.  He weighed 14 pounds.

During Angus' first full day (Tuesday) with us, he went for long walks, rode a horse, played with his new sister Lizzie, peed on the floor three times, and hollered a lot in his crate.  The next day he went backpacking, learned to "curb," and met the UPS man.  On Day Three we had a party and he met 12 new people.  He slept through the night (in his crate, in our bedroom) without a peep.On Day Four,  he managed to get up and down all 12 steps in the house.  Not bad for a puppy less than eight weeks old.

He is very "Labby. He's not particularly sensitive, physically or emotionally (this has its pluses and minuses from a training standpoint), but he does seem quite sensible and level-headed.  He likes people and seems to have a fairly strong will to please.  His nose "turned on" today (Day 54) on our walk up the long hill to the mailbox, and he started running a zigzag track ahead of us.  He'll retrieve (sort of) things at a short distance, but his eyes haven't learned to follow a toss very well yet.  Of course he gets easily distracted.

Noises don't startle him.  He's fine with the vacuum cleaner, dishwasher, and Don's wood-splitting.

He and Lizzie are getting along well.  She shares her toys and plays quite gently with him.
So far, so good.  Angus is entertaining to all of us!
